Fence Painting in Chilliwack & The Fraser Valley
Professional Fence Painting & Staining That Lasts Through Chilliwack Weather
A fence is one of the hardest-working surfaces on your property — fully exposed to sun, rain, and the wet winters we get here, with no roofline to shelter it. Without the right finish and proper prep, a fence greys, chips, and weathers far faster than the rest of your home's exterior.
Elevation Painting handles fence painting and staining across Chilliwack and the surrounding communities — new fence finishing, weathered fence restoration, and recoating — with the surface prep and product selection that make a finish actually hold up.

What a Fence Painting or Staining Project Includes
Every fence project starts with a full power wash to strip away dirt, mildew, and chalking from the existing surface. From there we scrape and feather any failing or peeling finish, sand back weathered or greyed wood, and condition the surface so the new coating bonds properly. We spot prime bare or repaired areas where needed, mask off posts, hardware, and adjacent surfaces, and apply the correct coating system for your fence material. Your landscaping, walkways, and any neighbouring surfaces are fully protected throughout, and we don't close out the job until we've done a final walkthrough and addressed any touch-ups.
Should You Paint or Stain Your Fence?
This is the most common question we get, and the answer depends on your fence material and the look you're after. Paint sits on top of the wood and delivers full, opaque colour in any shade you want, but on a fully exposed fence in a wet climate, paint is more prone to chipping, peeling, and trapping moisture against the wood over time. Stain penetrates into the wood instead of sitting on top, which lets the surface breathe, resists peeling, and fades evenly rather than flaking. For cedar and most wood fences, we generally recommend a quality stain, since cedar doesn't hold paint well and a breathable finish protects it far better against our local rain and humidity. When you want a specific solid colour or you're matching an existing painted fence, paint is the right call. We help you choose the right product during the on-site assessment based on your wood, its condition, and the result you want.

Siding & Trim Painting FAQ
-
Fence painting cost depends on the length and height of the fence, the material, surface condition, and how much prep work is required. We provide detailed written quotes so you have a clear number before any work begins.
-
Fence staining is priced based on the size of the fence, the type of stain (solid or semi-transparent), number of coats required, and the condition of the existing surface. Whether it's a standalone fence job or part of a larger exterior project, we give you a written quote that covers everything upfront.
-
Most residential fence painting and staining projects take 1–3 days from start to finish, depending on the length of the fence and how much prep is involved. Larger properties or heavily weathered fences that need significant restoration will take longer. We give you a clear timeline during the estimate so you know exactly what to expect.
-
For cedar, we almost always recommend staining over painting. Cedar doesn't hold paint well: paint tends to chip and peel because it sits on top of the wood rather than soaking in, and it prevents the cedar from breathing, which can shorten the fence's lifespan. A quality stain penetrates the wood, protects against moisture, and lets the natural grain show through. We confirm the best approach during the on-site assessment.

Yes. If your fence has greyed, faded, or lost its finish, we power wash it, sand back the weathered surface, condition the wood, and recoat with the appropriate product. Full replacement usually isn't necessary- the right prep and recoating process can add years to your existing fence.
-
It depends on the finish and exposure. A stained fence typically needs recoating every few years, while a painted fence may go longer between coats but requires more prep when it does need redoing. Fences that take direct sun or heavy rain may need attention sooner. We'll give you a realistic maintenance expectation based on your fence and finish.

Yes we paint vinyl and composite fences. These types of fences can be painted, but they require specific surface preparation and a coating formulated to adhere to and flex with the material. We use the correct products and prep process so the finish bonds properly and lasts.
